The Green Iguana is a giant-sized, mostly herbivorous lizard species. They originated from the genus Iguana.

These lizards are also known as the American Iguana or the Common Green Iguana. But as usual, this animal has simply been termed the Iguana.

The Green Iguana covers a large geographical area as its residence. It is found in Southern Brazil, Paraguay, northern Mexico, and South America to Puerto Rico.

These lizards are common on the islands, where it is conversationally known as "Gallina De Palo." They are also commonly seen on the Galapagos Islands.

Iguana grows up to a length of 1.5 m from their head to tail. Some specimens have grown more than 2 m also. They can weigh up to 9 kgs.

Green Iguanas are efficient swimmers. They can swim up to a distance of 5 km continuously. They can also dive 2-3 km inside the lakes and oceans.

They can grow into quite large sizes. They also live a long time, sometimes even 30 years, and can be very strong.
